2017 Movies

The fact a movie with the cast and budget of Live By Night got dumped in the January release window should have been a sign. 3/10.

Split: Didn't really like it. Didn't hate it either. 6/10.

A Cure For Wellness is pretty bad. Dull, predictable, 30 minutes too long.

Yeah, heard it's awesome....not to be "Rotten Tomatoes Guy", but it's hard to argue with 100%....with critics...most of whom don't even like the smell of their own farts....and it's from Jordan Peele...did not see that coming.

The Batman Lego movie was pretty good if guys don't mind looking more like a creeper than usual.

The Circle - Meh. it's nice to see a movie explore how we are going to take the path towards totalitarianism proposed by Aldous Huxley where we happily do it to ourselves rather than presenting yet another Orwellian hellscape but it's way too on the nose. Comes off as a feature length really halfassed episode of Black Mirror.

Galaxy 2 is greatness...better than Galaxy 1 IMO. I laughed several times during the movie, which my son brought to my attention. Apparently it doesn't happen that often. Good stuff.

Saw Logan Lucky tonight. Katie Holmes is looking pretty beat.

Ingrid Goes West - Didn't like the ending but overall it was OK.

Wind River - The directorial debut of the guy who wrote Sicario and Hell or High Water. Much like Sicario it is not much fun to watch but is damn good.

This one, as someone smarter than me put it, plays out like a higher octane version of Stranger Things. If you liked that, you'd probably find It worth seeing.

Suburbicon is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Don't be fooled by the involvement of the Coen brothers. Not funny. Predictable. The overarching "subversive" point was about as subtle as a crowbar to the face and isn't anything we haven't already heard. Skip it.

The two movies I have seen since I walked out of the office for Christmas.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi spoiler free review: Went in without having seen as much as a trailer or read a review. Absolutely hated it.

Downsizing: The Descendants and Election, also written directed by Alexander Payne, are some of my favorite movies of the last 20 years. Downsizing left me absolutely cold. It's not a bad movie but it goes off in an odd direction that turns the movie into something completely different than what is suggested in the previews and it didn't do much for me. I was ready for it to be over way before it was over. A for effort.

Prior to going into pure Oscar Bait season I'd say my favorite movies of the year so far are:

1a. Brawl In Cell Block 99
1b. The Disaster Artist
2. Lady Bird
3. Wind River

SPOILER ALERT:

Star Wars SUCKS....and not just in relation to what you expect....it truly sucks.

HOWEVER.....Shape of Water...currently the second best movie I’ve ever seen....behind Inception of course. I mean, if you’re not into “that”, then ok, but it’s unlike anything you’ll see....I can’t even put into to words how amazing it is.

I enjoyed The Shape of Water, but not as much as you.

I, Tonya was very well done.
