Because these two guys were both available on the open market as recently as two months ago.

They both have been decent enough (and it doesn't take much to be better than Nick Martinez and Alex Claudio), but everyone is getting all excited about very small sample sizes (woohoo 15 innings pitched!!!).

The high price of pitching indeed.

We got two MLB players - both improvements over the status quo and both controllable long term - for a low floor, moderate ceiling fringe prospect who has already been popped for PEDs.

It might not be the difference in a WS or even getting to the playoffs, but this was a layup deal if I've ever seen one.

All 19 innings were better than Alex Claudio, but I haven't ranked them quite yet.

Not a fan of this Beltran deal. You're giving up your first round draft pick for an old rental. I know Tate has been wheels off, but he's young and has plenty of time to figure it out. Not to mention where does this leave Profar? He needs to be in the lineup everyday right now, where is he playing if you have Beltran and Choo comes back?
