Went to Vegas a played a few months back as well. My first experience with desert golf and I didn't hate it. TPC Vegas had some really long canyon carries though that were rather intimidating.

In August I'm headed to Kohler to play Whistling Straits. So fired up for it. Playing all 4 courses they have there, but obviously The Straits is the one we are all looking forward to.

Agreed and that was the biggest selling point on joining a club for me. We don't have a lot of good public courses in FW proper and the ones we do you can plan on a 5 hour round. I hate that shit so much.

Working on a streak about like that myself. Bad news.

I played Hancock yesterday... first outing since last May. Hit the ball week on the first two holes but could not putt on the patchy, muddy greens. Then my fucking shoe literally fell apart. I had to change into my flip flops and hit barefoot after that. Brutal.

86 Friday and 89 yesterday. That's 4 straight rounds back in the 80s. Putting is still a major struggle for me, I had several looks at par from 4-8 feet and just couldn't make them. I need to just go spend some time on the practice green to get better, but that is boring as hell.

Minor adjustment to the backswing has me hitting the ball much straighter and a little longer. No more cut, mostly straight to a slight draw. Only problem with this is after years of playing a cut, especially off the tee, I'm having serious alignment issues currently.

It's a buddy of mines 40th bday party. He wanted to go big for the big 4-0. We looked into Pebble but it was pretty outrageous. Got flight, staying at the resort, and 6 rounds of golf for 1/3rd of what Pebble was going to cost.

Is that the one at Excellence? Great resort, or at least it was 8 years ago.

Yes it is. That's where Hills wedding is as well. I hear it's nice, it better be for the price tag we had to dish out to go be in his wedding.

It is super nice and the staff are great. They make great drinks at the main lobby bar. We liked the grill over the pool for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The mexican themed restaurant is also good. Skip the asian place.
If you're staying in the Excellence Club rooms, you can request whatever liquor and beer you want in your room.

Be aware the bathrooms have no doors and there are two porn channels that catch you off guard when you're flipping through the channels. There is one channel especially for those who are fans of the community. I found that quite jarring.

Ah yes...channels 49 and 50. Those two were the talk of the weekend and even made it into the ceremony.

Place was nice, but they were pretty strict most of us felt. Definitely not somewhere you want to be reuniting a bunch of college friends. We still had fun though.

Golf course was pretty nice. I liked the lay out. Greens were very slow though, maybe with the humidity they can't cut them much shorter? Doesn't seem to be an issue around here though. Team DFW took team Houston to the Woodshed. Including your truly winning my match 13-5. So they offered us a discounted rate that included free beer if we agreed to let them photograph and film our round for their website. So apparently we will now be the cover boys of the Playa Mujeres Golf Club website, hahaha.

Also, I didn't know the song Despacito could be played so many times in a 4 day span.

Glad y'all had fun. Yes, I remember them having like a 10 song soundtrack that played throughout the resort.

So when I joined MVCC I was about a 15 HCP index. In the 3 months since joining I have played 2-3 times a week and put in quite a bit of range work. I have now dropped my index to 10 as of the last update on Saturday. Trending to 9.6 after yesterday's 84. Last Friday I needed a par on 18 for a 79 and naturally I fing bogeyed. Really happy with the improvement but still want a little more. Need to get the doubles off the card. Yesterday's 84 had 4 doubles but was able to offset them with 3 birdies.

Looking forward to Whistling Straits still, but it sounds like a bear. We were told the average score is 110.

Officially down to a 9 index now. Shooting 80-84 everytime out. Played about 13 holes yesterday and started spraying my driver after I had finally reigned it in the last couple weeks. Luckily the trusty 3 wood was still true. Headed to Whistling Staits Friday AM. Playing the actual Straits course on Sunday AM. We have decided to play the second back tees which is still 7142 yards and slopes 145, should be quite the test. Playing The Irish Friday, Black Wolf Run Meadow Valley Saturday AM and PM, Straits Sunday AM and Irish again Sunday PM, then close out with Black Wolf Run River on Monday AM before heading home. Lotta golf, going to be an endurance test. Luckily weather looks awesome with the high being 81 on Sunday.

We played the Blues all weekend which was 6750 on Irish, 7200 on Straits, 6830 on Meadow Valley, and 6900 on The River.

Had a pretty decent round going at The Irish until 16, went double, double, double to close at a 93.

The Straits I shot 91 which I was pretty happy with. Tough set up there. Par 3 17 was playing about 265 because of the wind into your face.

Meadow Valley 86.

The River 89. Which was very surprising because I was hungover as dog shit and felt like I played awful. Was shocked to be under 90 when we totaled the card.

All the courses were in immaculate condition and the weather was great. Straits was obviously very cool to play all the holes you've see on TV. Straits gets all the pub for hosting the PGA and Ryder Cup, but The River is the jewel of the place. One of the best courses I've ever played.
