Wow....

Do yourself a favor and do not watch that video. Keep the 4 minutes and do something productive, read an article on Ash vs. McCoy, call your Mom to say "hi" or just think happy thoughts.

I really wish that Kevin had given me that same advise. Instead, he should know (and walk with the guilt of knowing) that he encouraged others to watch.

I will admit that now I have to look up the "fundamental laws of thermodynamics"

After about 15 listens over the past few weeks I'd say the new Avett Bros is good, but not great. Maybe because it's more melancholy than the last effort, though this doesn't venture into some of the "experimental" territory (no tubas, for one thing). "Live and Die" is an outstanding song, if nothing else, and will easily be among my favorite tracks of the year.

Streaming the upcoming Band of Horses album right now and I like it after one listen. It looks like we are finally emerging from the musical doldrums of the past few months.

Yeah. It's good, but it's nowhere near the level of Emotionalism or I and Love and You.

Agreed, and you'll disagree with this, but... The Killers' new album.... not too bad.

Also, Kanye's collaboration album has some pretty good stuff on it.

I don't recall going on record as a Killers hater. I need to give the new album a listen.

The new Dinosaur Jr. isn't doing much for me.

Just didn't figure electro pop was your thing.

I didn't like DJ at all. Maybe I'm still annoyed by the J Mascis SXSW set from two years ago.

Listening to New Multitudes, which is a bunch of Woodie Guthrie stuff that Will Johnson from Centro-matic, Jay Farrar from Son Volt and Jim James from My Morning Jacket got together and recorded. Not bad.

Somebody I work with recommended that I look up the song "Some Nights" by Fun on Spotify. I'm not sure why they recommended that to me because it sounds like a bunch of people got together for the specific purpose of writing and recording a song that I would find annoying. Fucking terrible.

Kevin, I have no clue about those bands these guys are from. I love Woodie Guthrie stuff though. Can you explain to me the sound? Something this sounds like.

At work and have no access to anything streaming to sample a listen.

Thanks!

It's pretty low key acoustic folk stuff. Guthrie's daughter Nora maintains an archive of unpublished/unrecorded stuff that Woody wrote. She let the four guys I mentioned go through the archive and arrange/record whatever grabbed their attention.

Frantically pound on an acoustic guitar, banjo or stand up bass while singing trite lyrics. Sing trite lyrics unaccompanied. Go back and forth between this a few times. Make a dozen songs like this. Congrats, you've recorded a Mumford and Sons album!
