Pussification run amok

Postby Drew Corleone on Thu May 19, 2011 10:49 pm

From a HS friend of mine, and a bunch of other HS people that are all now apparently over-protective parents.

It frightens me that her kids are growing up to be total pussies.

Fair enough, but it's a tough world out there, and if your 9 or 10 year old needs to be sheltered from the word "damn" on a tv commercial then I don't see how you're possibly preparing them for it.

Something tells me that if Shoopy watches Texas games with his daddy on Saturdays, he'll be plenty prepared for the world...

I haven't been like that at games in years.

Isn't "heck" just substitute swearing? I for one am offended.

By the way, if someone is talking about swearing and says "the d word", I would not think they were talking about "damn".

My kids have heard much worse at school and from me. They have both made the choices that they don't have to talk like that.

LOL. I have some friends who used to brag all the time about how they never cursed in front of their kids. Their 6th grade daughter came home this year talking about blow jobs. Unless you are home schooling your children and never let them out of your sight or play with anyone who has been around normal adults and kids, you cannot "protect" your child from foul language or adult themes.

That being said, Joey is 7. He "gets" a lot of the innuendo on TV. We don't let him watch South Park, Family Guy, or Tosh unless we watch it first and make sure it doesn't go too much into the sex thing. We don't really worry about the language, but 7 is too young for the sex stuff.

He knows what words are wrong to say and corrects us continually. But hearing the words will not ruin him for life.

I'll take any four letter word or reference to sex over any statement like this:

"Daddy, I wanna watch Barney."

That's why you get them their own TV and DVD player. ;) You can just run Barney on a loop in another room! :D
