Xmas Blizzard of 2009

Postby Mr. Peabody on Thu Dec 24, 2009 6:35 pm

We are definitely having a white xmas this year.

I don't recall seeing a snow storm/blizzard like this before.

the weather guys say it is the worst in 20 years.

we've got snow drifts 4-5' high.

Winds have been blowing 55mph most of the day.

the electricity went on and off several times today. I certainly didn't want to lose power for an extended time in this weather.

Visibility has been incredibly poor.

I couldn't see the pond behind my house most of the afternoon.

I hit a patch of ice and ended up in a ditch on the way to get my 4 dozen tamales.

fortunately, i was only in the ditch about 10-15 minutes before some guys in a suburban pulled out my hummer.

I finished my trip to get the tamales. I saw at least 40-50 cars either stranded in snow drifts, in a ditch, or in wrecks btw my house and the tamale place.

the hummer rules in snow, but ice is another thing of course.

HIghways are shut down around here.

1st Christmas eve that I can remember that we didn't get to spend at my folks house. the entire family always gets together and eats homemade chili and tamales. Then we open up presents.

Its been fun and an experience to remember.

I got pissed at my son. He thought I was gonna just let him drive his pickup over to his girlfriends house in this weather.. While I was gone to get the tamales, he proceeded to load up all my 45lb weight plates in the back of his pickup. I was so pissed when I got home. damn things will rust.

I have eight 45lb plates. He loaded all eight plus two 35lb plates. We unloaded them during the blizzard which was extremely tough to do considering that you are walking on ice while getting pushed around by 55mph winds.

So you were appreciative that some random people stopped to get you out of the ditch, but when you saw ~50 others in ditches on the way back home you didn't help them out?

I'm Jewish and even I can say that isn't very Christmas-like :)

And then he went home and topped things off by cockblocking his son. This was not Mr. Peabody's finest hour.

I told the restaurant that I would pick up the tamales at 4:00pm. I called them about 3:30pm hoping that they would be closed or say don't worry about it. I'm very good friends with the owners. The restaurant was indeed closed but they were still there waiting for me to pickup my order (48 tamales with chili and cheese on top, 1 32oz container of guacamole, 3 32oz containers of salsa, 3 32oz containers of cheese sauce, 2 big brown grocery sacks full of chips. I felt obligated to go ahead and tread along and get there to pick up the order. I didn't want to keep them waiting anymore than I had to. They were doing me a favor. Besides, I couldn't help any stranded cars b/c I didn't have a tow strap. I did by one today. Next time, I can help people.
