ACL 2009

Postby Drew Corleone on Tue Apr 28, 2009 12:04 am

May have to go this year... http://2009.aclfestival.com/?utm_source ... paign=2009

The problem is that invariably they'll set the lineup so that I have to choose between all of the acts that I want to see, while plenty of bands I don't care about split the rest of the spots.

Wow....what a frickin' lineup.....I went ahead and bought 3-day passes this morning, thus breaking my six year streak of hating ACL!!! Actually, I guess it's too early to say that....it's only broken my six year streak of not attending the clusterfuck....we'll see how enjoyable it is???

Yeah I might have to put this on my list of Austin things actually done.

Since it's during an offweek, doesn't require me to take off two consecutive Fridays, and does have a lot of and I want to see... I went ahead and bought a three-day pass.

I really want to go for the first time ever as well.

Can we register for 2 three-day passes? :)

This month is brutal in terms of wedding expenditures.

......please Lord let this happen.

Nothing announced, but they have a band page up for Tool.....which is very odd is they're not going to be playing!!??!!!

For those going, what time are you getting down there Friday? I'm planning on getting there around 3:30 to get a good spot for Phoenix at 4:30....probably head to Bassnectar after that, then Thievery Corporation 6:30 and Them Crooked Vultures at 7:30...probably finish with Kings of Leon???

I'll worry about Saturday on that morning.

Sweet. I hope they show The Decemberists set since they can't be bothered to come through Dallas on their way in or out of Austin.

I don't know if I've ever been as worn out from a weekend as I am this morning, but despite the mud and post-festival misery, it was worth every penny!

It took every ounce of what remaining strength I had(and I had about 2 ounces left) to get my ass off the couch and go yesterday after the events on Saturday.....but The Dead Weather was worth the effort alone, and Pearl Jam was.......well they were Pearl Jam.....what an epic two hours that was!!!!!

Speaking of epic.....what an epic waste of $2.5 mil that was for the new grass at Zilker.......but hey, at least it was beautiful on Friday.

Top 10:
1. Pearl Jam
2. Pearl Jam
3. Pearl Jam
t4. Ghostland Observatory
t4. The Dead Weather
6. Phoenix
7. The crunchy Avocado Cone from Hudson's On The Bend
8. The muddy Asian chick tripping on some seriously great acid in the video below....along with her even more tripping 10 year old brother to the right in the video. It's only 30 seconds, and from my phone, so it's not great quality....but that went on for two hours.
9. the weather on Friday
10. Pearl Jam

Biggest Disappointments:
1. Them Crooked Vultures (wow.....didn't see that one coming)
2. Passion Pit (sounded like four cat's fucking in a back alley)
3. Kings of Leon (great on CD's, and maybe small venues....not to so much in front of 75,000 people....BO-RING!!!!
4. The mud......Jesus Christ that was awful.
5. The muddy Asian chick tripping on some seriously great acid in the video above eventually leaving halfway through The Dead Weather.

Wow... I really liked Passion Pit. And yeah, I came very close to not going at all yesterday. I'm glad Gould motivated me.

My highlights:

Pearl Jam - what more can be said?
The Decemberists - I wish they would have at least done a few older songs at the end, but seeing the new CD straight through was cool.
Avett Brothers/Dr. Dog - seeing these two back-to-back were incredible... they made the experience worthwhile from the start.
Flogging Molly - drunk Irishmen in the rain... greatness.
Dead Weather - I honestly had no idea Jack White had yet another side project. They put on one helluva show.

Disappointments:

Mos Def - easily the worst set I saw. I left after 10 minutes, but then again, he was 15 minutes late coming on.
Jonathan Tyler - This is only a disappointment with myself... I mistimed it and saw only one song. It was a good 10 minutes, and I heard a lot of people raving about him.
Grizzly Bear - zzzzz zzzzzzzz zzzzzzzz
Phoenix - They were by no means bad, and maybe it was because they were the wrap-up leg of three straight sets starting with Avett and Dr. Dog, but it just wasn't quite as good as I had hoped.
Chicken cones - Torchy's trailer park tacos were just as good at half the price.
