Thought is was pretty good. I've seen funnier.

Just watched "The Hurt Locker." It's the story of a bomb diffusion squad that serves during the Iraq war. It's an intense flick and really emotional. It's an outstanding flick. Don't know when it comes out in wide release, but when it does I couldn't recommend it more.

Updated. I didn't dig The Hangover as much as most of you did. I thought it was funny, but it ran out of steam towards the end.

Agreed. Funny, not great.
why don't you run back to the sandbox where the rest of the kids are playing so the adults can have a discussion...it's over there....you see Howie, he's over there with PMS knocking over other kids sandcastles...looks like fun.

I saw it for the first time this past weekend, so I had to listen to everyone's take on it prior to seeing it. With that said, I thought it was tremendous. I mean, flat out laugh out loud funny the entire way through.

Saw District 9 yesterday.......thought it was incredible, and will almost certainly be one of those "genre classics' like Alien and Fifth Element.

Original post updated.

Set out to see Inglorious Basterds this evening. We showed up 10 minutes late and were told that they hadn't sold any tickets and therefore didn't start the movie and couldn't start it now. In order to placate us, the box office guy offers to let us into Whiteout for free. We took him up on it and boy what a fucking mistake that was.

The movie had been on for about 10 minutes when we wandered in. Apparently, this is the 10 minutes of the movie that features a scantily-clad Kate Beckinsale. The rest of the movie features frozen dead bodies, snow, wind, Beckinsale in a parka, major plot points that you can see coming a mile away and a contrived and anti-climatic "twist." I was rooting for the bad guy.

Don't see this. Not even for free.

Wife and I both made the mistake of paying to see Whiteout this past weekend. Similar observations to 12oz - very predictable plot/story with a lame ending. Money and time I'll never get back.

I'm still laughing about the ending... "Um, OK... Yeah... It was me. Gonna walk outside and freeze to death now. See ya!"

Yeah. I wonder how many takes it took Skerrett to get through that scene with a straight face. I did laugh when he gave his reasoning/justifications. It was almost like the script writers put that off until near the end of production and finally had to put something in there. I'm guessing the writers drew straws as to who had to fill in that part of the script.

Two thumbs up for Zombieland. I haven't seen anything I'd deem a classic of American cinema this year, but I definitely have been very entertained by a lot of movies so far. This one is just campy and hilarious. I thoroughly enjoyed.

Watching the last 10 minutes or so of Public Enemies right now. I'd skip it if you haven't seen it.

Meh.

The special effects and battle scenes were a 100/10. The plot, writing and acting was a 1/10. It's certainly a revolutionary film in the craft of film making, but the writing dragged it down for me.

I saw Up in the Air last week, and liked it much more than I thought I would.

I 've explained Avatar to folks that have not seen it as 'Dances with wolves meets the Matrix'.

I pretty much agree with Atl's ratings though.

Call me pathetic. I went through all of 2009 without seeing any movies at the theater. Not a damn one. In fact, haven't been since August 2008.

Trying like hell to get out and see Up In The Air soon.

Inglorious Basterds - I didn't hate it, but I sure as hell didn't like it either.

Zombieland - Brainless fun. I enjoyed it. It's worth your 85 minutes.
