Best/Worst Movies of 2009

Postby Mr. Peabody on Thu Jan 15, 2009 10:26 pm

Best of the Best

Taken
Watchmen

Glad I Saw Them

Star Trek
Wolverine
The International
Underworld - Rise of the Lycans
State of Play
Last House On The Left

Eh

Angels & Demons
The Unborn
Push

Blech

He's Just Not That Into You
Feast III
Fast and the Furious
The Uninvited

Briefly Speaking................

Angels & Demons: A great book compacted into an average at best 2 hour movie. I do highly recommend the book. I'd seriously wait to rent it or better yet see it when it makes the move to the dollar movies.

I am not a big fan of scary movies, but I saw the trailer for The Last House on the Left yesterday, I would definitely like to see it.

Saw two movies this past weekend.

Wife and I saw Underworld 3 Saturday. It was worth seeing if you've seen the first two monvies and like them, which we both do. Nothing great, but entertaining enough. 6/10

We took our two daughters to see Inkheart yesterday. I went in with low expectations and still managed to come out disappointed. The movie prodded along and meandered its way to a predictable finish. Some pretty scenery of the countryside in parts of Europe, but other than that I fought to stay awake. Both daughters said they liked the movie, but neither talked about the movie as they temd to with movies they really like. 2/10

I'm trying to determine the ransom it would take to get my wife into a movie theater to see a movie in which the title contained either A) the word "Underworld" or B) any hint of being NOT the first movie made about the subject (II, Revenge of, Returns, etc.). I'd probably put the over/under at a Coach purse, and smart money would take the over.

The actual title (as accurately noted by Peabody) is 'Underworld - Rise of the Lycans.' It's a prequel to the previous two movies. Like I said, if you liked those two movies, you'd probably like this one. If you didn't see them or weren't impressed, save the $$.

I've been mulling my interest in the new Underworld.

I felt your pain, Peabody. It was terrible... And I can usually handle chick flicks.

Watchmen (Excellent movie. Excellent soundtrack. A very interesting story. The characters were also very interesting. Wasn't predictable. It was a pretty deep movie. I was really surprised. Expect a lot of good violence. It is a long movie too. I think it is about 2 hours 43min. It did get slow in a couple of parts.) Now, I'm going to read the graphic novel.

The novel is really good. Let me know if you haven't read it yet and I will let you borrow my copy.

Agreed. Took the family Saturday and everyone loved it. My wife is not a Star trek fan in general, but said she really enjoyed the new movie. She also recalled enough from old movies and original TV series to pick up on some of the references/tie-ins.

I liked the fact that this ST movie didn't take the familiar, sterile environment of technology/space. In past movies and TV shows, everything (ships, buildings, etc) looks so bland, clean, sterile that you just don't buy the technology behind it. If it makes any sense, in this ST movie the ships and all the technology look man-made. The engineering room isn't just a panel with some blinking buttons. There are valves and pipes and some of the grungy stuff you'd expect to find in the engineering area of a ship... and the overall look is a more technologically advanced ship than current day, but still with that characteristic look/feel of being man-made.

9/10 in my book.

Shouldn't you just update your original post with the new content as it arrives rather than create new posts repeating the old information?

That may be the most sensible post Simon has ever had.

Can you tell when someone has updated their post without rolling through the entire thread and checking everyone's individual post? I have a fairly high amount of trust in the collective movie-related opinion of lmfanzone.com, outside of Mr. Peabody who thinks that Chupacabra vs. Loch Ness Monster Part 8 is a solid 10/10.

I make my most recent seen movies "large" b/c this new font style on lmfz doesn't standout very well in "bold"

I suppose everyone could just have one dedicated post on this thread and update each time. I will replace my 1st movie review post with my last movie review post and erase all my other movie review posts.

It sounds like a solid plan.

Someone should have recommended this idea a few years ago.

The Hangover was greatness. Unlike some recent comedies which have great first halves, so-so second halves, this one delivered all the way to the end credits.
