Texas Country songs

Postby HornMafia on Wed Sep 24, 2008 10:09 am

Okay, I need some beer drinkin' songs.

I'm looking to boost my iTunes library here. The last artist that I really got into was Cory Morrow, and even his last couple of albums have been blah to me.

I noticed that the new Randy Rogers dropped yesterday, and I downloaded a couple of tracks off there that I like (In My Arms Instead, Better Than I Ought to Be), but any suggestions on songs/artists would be greatly appreciated.

Definitely check out these:

Eli Young Band
Johnny Cooper
Eleven Hundred Springs
Stoney Larue ( which I'm sure you know of)
Jason Boland and the Stragglers
Kevin Fowler (Pablo of BOFZ's fave)
Billy Joe Shaver

Also check out this guy's site on MySpace for other Red Dirt artists that might interest you.

Also, Austin's own Li'l Cap'n Travis is solid drinking music even though they don't fall under the umbrella of what comes to mind when I think of "Texas Country."

It won't win any awards or impress your friends but you should try out any early to mid 80's Chris LeDoux albums if you want some good drinking music and want to feel like a Texan.

Good call on LeDoux he does have some damn good ones.

Wade Bowen wears me the fuck out.

Reckless Kelly had a new CD come out a couple months back, and I have never been dissapointed in any of their stuff.

Check out Ryan Bingham and the Dead Horses too.

Old stuff is fine, too.

Yeah they aren't bad.

That song Stockyards by them gets worn the fuck out down in the Stockyards though.

why don't you run back to the sandbox where the rest of the kids are playing so the adults can have a discussion...it's over there....you see Howie, he's over there with PMS knocking over other kids sandcastles...looks like fun.

Seth, It is about time you weighed in on this thread. What in the Hell have you been doing. We never see you 'round these parts anymore.

I don't want to give you the traditional "busy" excuse, but I'm afraid that i don't have another. It seems Saturday's while watching football is the only day that I can catch up.

Bingham up for a Oscar for "Weary Kind" which is the song that Jeff Bridges "writes" in Crazy Heart.

Good for him. I remember seeing him in half empty bars just a little over a year ago.

I love Bingham. I downloaded his first album early this week and have been wearing it out. I'm bummed that I'm late to the party and haven't seen him play in Fort Worth.

Yeah Mescalito is better than Roadhouse Sun, but it's solid too.

Yeah you are kinda late to the party as far as getting to see him in any small venues, which is a shame. Dude puts on one hell of a show. His albums don't do his live shows justice. Hell we saw him at the Ardvark about a year ago, that would never happen now. You can still catch him at HOB in Dallas without it being to miserably packed.

Best live show I have ever been to was his CD release party at Gruene Hall last summer. Just absolutely amazing.

I had a handful of friends that went to the Ardvark show, but I passed because I hadn't heard of him and because my wife was preggers. :(
